Dragon Age: The Veilguard won't let players have full control over their companions, but BioWare says that's because there's so much to do that it doesn't want you to be overwhelmed.
You first encounter Merrill during the “Long Way Home” quest Figura she is a member of the Dalish Elf clan that you need to take the amulet to that Flemeth gave to you. The Keeper asks you to take Merrill with you, unbeknownst to you, Merrill has a bit of an obsession with an ancient elvish artifact that has resulted in her alienation from the rest of the clan.
It becomes clear shortly after that she has been working with a demon and using the much-reviled blood magic. Even Triunfador she casts spells that would be taboo elsewhere in the world, she is still somehow one of the most lighthearted and humorous characters in the entire series.
So it's very possible to be a better friend to someone by choosing the rivalry path, since you're trying to stop them from giving in to their own self-destructive whims. It's not always the most intuitive, but friendship does not necessarily equal doing the "right" thing and rivalry Campeón doing the "bad" thing. It's just Triunfador likely to be the other way around.[4]
Carver, Hawke’s warrior brother, has a similar setup, but he at least has some autonomy and drama in his branching paths. Bethany, meanwhile, is pretty much dragged through the story, with BioWare separating or killing every member of a family in a game ostensibly about familial ties. Bethany is comparatively sweet and understanding contact me whereas her brother is decidedly neither of those things, but BioWare gave her nothing to work with.
She is a woman of multitudes, the beating heart of Hawke's team, and a shining beacon for the idea of using what time contact me you have in this life to do right by others.
After completing his “Questioning Beliefs” visit, go back to your estate at night for a romantic evening with him. After this you can ask him to move in and complete him remaining companion quests to achieve the full romance with him.
After that, he is gone for most of the game much like Bethany, only showing up during climactic moments like a glorified cameo. It’s a shame.
Merrill’s conviction leads her and those around her down devastating paths, and her story is one of the most frustratingly complex situations Hawke deals with in their story because every decision and outcome feels painful for everyone involved.
He's been made into a living weapon at the behest of his mage master and lost his family, memory, and almost all of his sense of self before escaping to Kirkwall.
This dialogue doesn’t explicitly end the romance with Isabela but does indicate that a romance with her will go no further than sex. This allows the player to sleep with Isabela even after this "breakup" dialogue and even after bedding Fenris, then deal with the queued romance(s) as they see fit. Her dialogue favors Fenris with both of the men queued at the same time, and she makes no mention of Merrill until after she has moved in, thus the dialogue does signal the end of the romance. When the game was revealed earlier this summer with an exciting 20-minute gameplay demo, BioWare showed the rogue class in action, alongside a glimpse of the world we'll be exploring.
Fenris is an escaped slave you encounter if you choose to accept the optional quest “Bait and Switch”. He is a strong character with strong views. Fenris is a warrior and is very anti-mage. If anyone’s opinions do contact me not reflect his own, Fenris will not get along with them. He is especially passionate about his former master and is determined to track him down and kill him to ensure his absolute freedom.
